Brave Hearts Photography

I became a family photographer because my son made me one. I spent years shooting weddings before he was born in 2018, and something shifted. I started seeing families differently. Not as a group of people who needed to be arranged, but as something alive and unpredictable and worth paying close attention to. Now I photograph families almost exclusively, and my favorite sessions are the ones where someone warns me ahead of time that they're awkward on camera. That's my cue. I know exactly what to do with that. I don't pose families. I prompt them. I ask absurd questions. I let the toddler run. I wait for the moment when everyone forgets I'm there, and then I find something true. A look between siblings. A dad cracking up. A kid mid-leap off a rock with zero regard for the nice outfit. I shoot along the coast of Rhode Island and Cape Cod. Thirteen years in, I'm still looking for the same thing every session. Not perfect. Just real.
